What Is Acreage?
Acreage is the area of a piece of land expressed in acres. For a rectangular plot, the area is the product of its length and width, and converting that product to acres gives the acreage.
The calculator accepts dimensions in feet, yards, or meters and internally converts them to square feet before dividing by 43,560, the number of square feet in one acre. It also reports the area in square meters so you can see the parcel size on both the US and metric scales.
Formula
Area = length × width
Acreage = (length × width) / 43,560 ft² per acre
where length and width are first converted to feet as needed.
Applications
- Estimating the acreage of a home lot before purchase
- Calculating fertilizer or seed rates per acre for a farm field
- Determining the size of a parcel for a building permit
- Splitting a tract of land into rectangular lots
